The governors under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reaffirmed their commitment to reposition their party and also restore the hope of Nigerians. Host of the governors and Plateau State governor, Caleb Mutfwang, reassured supporters of the PDP, that his colleagues and other critical stakeholders were committed to re-strategising to stabilise the party and restore hope for Nigerians. Governor Mutfwang made the declaration on Friday during a Gala Night at the Banquet Hall, Government House in Jos, where he hosted the PDP Governors’ Forum for a strategic meeting. He expressed gratitude to the governors and other party faithful, who travelled from across the country to ‘The Home of Peace and Tourism’ to support the forum. He emphasised the importance of the gathering in charting a way forward for the PDP and restoring its reputation as the party of choice for Nigerians. Even though this is primarily a meeting of governors, it is gratifying to see party leaders and stakeholders from various states filling this room to support the governors as we strategise to ensure not only the stability of our party but also its ability to continue providing hope to Nigerians,” Mutfwang stated. Governor Mutfwang highlighted Plateau’s historical significance to the PDP, recalling that it hosted the party’s first convention to elect the first President of the Fourth Republic and produced the PDP’s first National Chairman. He proudly referred to Plateau as the ‘Home of PDP’. He also reflected on the successes of his administration, asserting that peace and trust have been restored to the state following years of challenges. By the grace of God, after years of miserable leadership by the opposition on the Plateau, the people have welcomed their party back. The PDP and I are determined to improve the lives of our people and fulfil the party’s mandate of social justice and empowerment,” he added. Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, commended the party’s stakeholders for their unwavering support. He emphasised the PDP’s unity and its position as an unbreakable political party offering Nigerians hope and good governance. “We are here on the Plateau, and Governor Mutfwang has shown us that Plateau is indeed a melting pot where everyone is welcome. The PDP remains an indivisible party. Despite minor hiccups, we are united with all organs and leaders of the party. We will continue to work together to provide Nigerians with opportunities for better governance,” Senator Bala Mohammed affirmed. For his part, Oyo State governor and vice chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Seyi Makinde, also reassured PDP supporters of the governors’ determination to reform the party and restore its leadership role in Nigeria. Others present at the Gala Night included Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Governor Kefas Agbu (Taraba), Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara) and the deputy governors of Bayelsa, Enugu, Plateau States and the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Illiya Damagum. Also in attendance were notable party leaders, including former Plateau State governor, Senator Jonah David Jang; former Kaduna State governor, Ahmed Makarfi; former Niger State governor, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, and chairman of the PDP Ministers’ Forum, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as well as other stakeholders.Injuries are starting to take their toll on on fantasy rosters. Even some of these are to greet the new mayor. Two of the three banners seen at an unauthorised ambulance stand near the east gate of Chattogram Medical College Hospital on Saturday were to greet Shahadat while the other was for BNP Chattogram City Unit's new Convener Ershad Ullah. Chattogram Ambulance Owners Cooperatives Limited, CMCH Ambulance Owners, and leaders of BNP Chawkbazar Ward Unit put up the banners. Another banner greeting the new mayor was put up by Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal of Chawkbazar Thana and ward units at a passenger shed adjacent to the ambulance stand. Two similar banners were seen on the road just five metres from the passenger shed. Residents said such publicity materials are an eyesore and these ruin the city's beauty. "Banners and posters greeting the new mayor and leaders of BNP's city unit have engulfed the city," said Rashed Iqbal, a resident at KB Fazlul Quader Road area. "We had seen posters and banners greeting Awami League ministers, MPs and leaders in the past. And now we're seeing the same practice by the BNP," he added. After taking charge on November 5, Shahadat pledged to build a clean, green, and healthy city. He accordingly declared to free the city from banners and posters. The mayor started the work by removing banners in and around the CCC compound. On November 20, when Shahadat was leaving his office, he saw a banner greeting him on the wall of the CCC building. He instantly took down the banner. "I told you: none of you will put up banners and posters. I thank you for electing me mayor. I respect your emotions, as you love me. I don't know how I can repay you for this love of yours. But please remove the banners and posters that you have put up," he told the people there. "I have instructed the conservation officer to remove all posters and banners. But in the meantime, I have visited several places and seen that there are still banners and posters." "I want the city to be free from these," he added. Contacted, Latiful Haque Kazmi, chief conservancy officer of CCC, said they were removing banners and posters every day, but new materials are hung again. "Our drives will continue," he said.

During her run on NCIS , actress Pauley Perrette delivered a captivating performance when she portrayed the beloved forensic expert Abby Sciuto. Pauley starred alongside other talented actors, such as fellow NCIS star Mark Harmon , on the program for 15 seasons before she unexpectedly departed. Her leave had many fans speculating if Mark had anything to do with her decision to quit. After she exited NCIS in 2018, her character Abby left the team after character Clay’s death, several claims began coming up about why she was out. NCIS stars Katrina Law and Brian Dietzen give verdict on future of Knight and Palmer’s romance NCIS Tony and Ziva cast: Who will be joining Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo for spin-off? Eventually, Pauley became fed up with all of the rumors, and set the record straight on social media. She explained that all of the media’s “total lies” about her had her clearing the air. Pauley’s first X posts revealed how she initially didn’t delve into her exit in an attempt to protect the NCIS crew, jobs, and other people. However, she then realized that her silence possibly wasn’t helping the situation, and so she shared exactly what prompted her to leave. “There is a ‘machine’ keeping me silent, and feeding FALSE stories about me. A very rich, very powerful publicity ‘machine’. No morals, no obligation to truth, and I’m just left here, reading the lies, trying to protect my crew. Trying to remain calm. He did it,” she wrote. In a follow-up tweet, she further hinted at all of the hardships she had to endure while on the show, noting: “I’ve been supporting ant-bullying programs forever. But now I KNOW because it was ME! If it’s school or work, that you’re required to go to? It’s horrifying. I left. Multiple Physical Assaults. I REALLY get it now. Stay safe. Nothing is worth your safety. Tell someone.” Pauley’s tweets caught the attention of CBS Television Studios, causing them to tell E! News: “Pauley Perrette had a terrific run on NCIS and we are all going to miss her. Over a year ago, Pauley came to us with a workplace concern. We took the matter seriously and worked with her to find a resolution. We are committed to a safe work environment on all our shows.“ Harmon has not commented on the tension. Another X post from 2019 from Pauley that has resurfaced has seemed to confirm their feud was cemented. “NO I AM NOT COMING BACK! EVER! (Please stop asking?) I am terrified of Harmon and him attacking me. I have nightmares about it. I have a new show that is SAFE AND HAPPY! You’ll love it! #HappyPlace Love y’all!,” she penned. The Mirror reached out to Mark's rep for comment.

Incoming US President Donald Trump is reportedly wasting no time in making changes to the nation’s vehicle policies, with electric vehicles (EVs) in the firing line while autonomous cars are set for greater freedoms. News agency Reuters reports Mr Trump’s transition team is recommending the axing of the federal tax credit for EVs, worth up to US$7500 (A$11,625), shortly after his inauguration in January. At present, the incentive is available for EVs built in North America and below certain price points – US$55,000 (A$85,250) for passenger cars, and US$80,000 (A$124,000) for pickups and SUVs – with just 16 models eligible for the full amount. According to Reuters, this is set to be one part of Mr Trump’s plans to cut off support for EVs and charging stations, which threatens to stagnate or reverse the sales growth of battery-powered vehicles in the nation. 100s of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now . The publication reports the transition team plans to redirect money spent on EV chargers – which had been earmarked to receive US$7.5 billion (A$11.8bn) under Joe Biden – to the “national defense supply chain and critical infrastructure”. A transition team document seen by Reuters reportedly says EV batteries, minerals and other related components are “critical to defense production”, however EVs themselves and charging stations aren’t. Mr Trump is also reportedly planning to wind back the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) emissions and fuel economy standards to 2019 levels, undoing the recent work of the government department. The EPA has a target for EVs to account for between 35 to 56 per cent of sales on the new vehicle market by 2032, however this is not an enforcement or mandate, rather an outline of what carmakers will need to do to meet wider emissions regulations across their fleets. This target was previously as high as 67 per cent before being walked back in April this year, following cooling demand for EVs. In the leadup to the US election, Mr Trump falsely claimed the US government has mandates which will require EV sales to reach 100 per cent, promising to repeal these if he was elected. Reuters reports that if the 2019 emissions regulations are revived, vehicles will on average be allowed to emit about 25 per cent more than under the 2025 regulations, while using up to 15 per cent more fuel. Additional proposals include restricting even more “adversarial nations” from receiving EV battery technology from the US; implementing tariffs as a means of negotiating with foreign markets to export EVs to; and removing requirements for US federal agencies to buy EVs by 2027. Meanwhile, another Reuters report claims Mr Trump’s transition team is looking to repeal a requirement for crashes involving autonomous vehicles to be reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The most vocal opponent of the requirement has been EV specialist Tesla, whose CEO Elon Musk reportedly spent more than US$250 million ($392m) towards Mr Trump’s election campaign. Autonomous driving has been a major focus of Tesla, not only via the ‘Autopilot’ and ‘Full Self-Driving’ systems in its current model range, but also with its upcoming driverless Cybercab robotaxi. Under the crash reporting requirement, Tesla has reported more than 1500 incidents to the NHTSA, which has led to the organisation launching multiple investigations against the company. According to Reuters, from when reporting first started to October 15, 2024, Tesla’s vehicles accounted for 40 out of 45 fatal crashes reported to NHTSA involving semi-autonomous vehicles. While the potential repeal of the crash reporting requirement would be of benefit to Tesla as it wouldn’t need to jump through as many regulatory hoops, the axing of pro-EV policies may also help the company. Mr Musk has previously welcomed the prospect of EV tax credits being cut, as it’s more likely to harm Tesla’s potential rivals, which need to trade on their price advantage in an effort to dislodge the EV sales leader. Following the November election, Tesla share prices have increased to record highs. In a stock exchange filing on Saturday, the Noida-based fintech said the shares will be transferred to SoftBank Vision Fund 2. Through the deal, PayPay will be valued at ₹1.06 trillion ($7 billion approximately). On Friday, Paytm in another stock exchange filing had said One97 Communications Singapore, the subsidiary entity through which the shares of PayPay were held, had passed a board resolution to undertake this sale. This comes after Paytm divested its entertainment and ticketing business Paytm Insider to Zomato for ₹2,048 crore. The PayPay stake sale will add to Paytm's cash pile. Paytm CFO Madhur Deora had then said once the core business becomes cash positive, the board of directors will take a call on what to do with their reserves. In a statement to the press on Saturday, Paytm said the board of Paytm Singapore approved the sale process as its shares have created significant value for the company. Georgia QB Carson Beck knocked out by hand injury in SEC championship game against Texas

Rickmansworth station, nestled in Zone 7 and served by both the Metropolitan line and Chiltern Railways, often sees National Rail trains bypassing it due to short platforms. The station, which has both National Rail and Underground trains using the same tracks and stopping at the same platforms, can be a bit of a headache for commuters despite its relatively light footfall. The station boasts two platforms; the northbound platform 1 towards Chesham/Aylesbury Vale Parkway measures 132.3 metres long, while the southbound platform 2 towards London is slightly longer at 132.8 metres. This isn't an issue for the London Underground Metropolitan line's S8 stock trains, which at 133.7 metres long can just about open all their doors on the platform. However, it's a different story for Chiltern Railways trains, whose lengths can vary. Their off-peak service usually operates with two, three or four carriage-long trains, which tend to be between 46 and 92 metres long depending on the type used (generally a Class 165 or a Class 168 HybridFLEX), so these trains can also open all doors without issue. During both peak and off-peak hours, train lengths are often extended to accommodate more passengers. This typically happens when the Metropolitan line is closed and Chiltern provides the only alternative, or when there's a major event along the route. These services can be up to five or six carriages long, stretching up to 139 metres. Unlike their modern counterparts across the network, Chiltern trains lack the selective door operation feature, which allows specific doors to remain locked at a station. This forces these trains to bypass Rickmansworth and continue non-stop. During peak hours, some trains even run directly to or from Chorleywood without stopping at Rickmansworth at all. This situation leaves Rickmansworth passengers with the option of either backtracking via Chorleywood or opting for a Metropolitan line service for their entire journey. While the difference in journey times between Chiltern and Metropolitan line services is usually minimal, it does mean that passengers travelling to or from Aylesbury stations have to change trains further down the line, potentially adding up to 30 minutes to their journey. Rickmansworth's platforms seem unable to be extended due to a bridge over the North Orbital Road immediately north and another bridge immediately south. Chiltern has no immediate plans to replace its trains with newer rolling stock, despite them reaching 40 years of service by the end of the decade, which is the typical lifespan for commuter rail vehicles in the UK. (ECNS) -- The Belt and Road Forum on People-to-people Connectivity kicked off on Friday in Nanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, aiming to pool wisdom and strength to promote high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). During the opening ceremony, Ding Zhongli, president of the Western Returned Scholars Association, said that 2024 marks the beginning of the second decade of the development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He called on more overseas Chinese students to tell BRI stories well and play a vital role in promoting exchanges and mutual learning between China and other civilizations. Guangxi is an important gateway for China's opening-up and its cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries. Data from local customs shows that Guangxi's trade with ASEAN reached 307.65 billion yuan ($ 42 billion ) in the first 10 months of 2024, a 15.5 percent increase year-on-year. 2024 is also designated as the China-ASEAN Year of People-to-People Exchanges. Ong Tee Keat, president of the Belt and Road Initiative Caucus for Asia Pacific, stressed in his keynote speech that more BRI programs of in-depth people engagement can be tailor-made to suit the local conditions of ASEAN countries that have agreed to build a community of shared future with China. He also pointed out that more new drivers for economic growth and sociocultural engagement are emerging from time to time as the China-ASEAN partnership is steadily evolving and progressing with the changing regional dynamics and developmental needs. According to Hein Khaing, director of China Studies Institute (Myanmar), the key to promote people-to-people connectivity between China and ASEAN countries is to enhance the building of a community of shared future and an independent knowledge and discourse system of the two sides. Sharlene May Cua, vice president of Philippine Association for Chinese Studies, noted that culture and language mutual learning as well as e-commerce business development through e-commerce platforms and social media channels are the kinds of people-to-people exchanges that China and the Philippines need. In 2013, China proposed building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future and launched the BRI. Since then, bilateral exchanges and cooperation have intensified, covering tourism, education, culture, sports, and more. This forum is organized by the Western Returned Scholars Association. It has attracted more than 150 political, business and academic representatives from BRI partner countries in southeast Asia, as well as experts, scholars, and representatives from the association and in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Toshiba Debuts Commerce Marketplace as Retailers ReadjustREFORM, Ala. (AP) — A federal judge ruled that the family of former NFL player Glenn Foster Jr., who died in law enforcement custody in Alabama, can pursue a lawsuit alleging his death was the result of excessive force. Foster, a former New Orleans Saints defensive end, died on Dec. 6, 2021, three days after being arrested and taken to jail in rural Pickens County for alleged speeding and attempting to elude police. A judge ordered Foster taken to a medical facility in Tuscaloosa for a mental evaluation. Foster was found unresponsive in the back of a law enforcement vehicle when he arrived at the facility. He was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later. His widow, Pamela Foster, filed a lawsuit against officers at the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and jail saying Foster had been beaten, shocked with a Taser and strangled while at the jail. The defendants then asked a federal judge to dismiss the case. U.S. District Judge Annemarie Carney Axon ruled Thursday refused to dismiss allegations of excessive force and failure to intervene. Axon dismissed other portions of the lawsuit. The ruling came a day before the third anniversary of Foster’s death. Foster appeared in 17 games for the Saints in 2013 and 2014.

Tbilisi, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Dec, 2024) Thousands of pro-Europe protesters rallied in against the 's decision to shelve accession talks, marking the 11th consecutive day of demonstrations amid a post-election crisis. The country's pro-Western and the president rejected the ruling Georgian Dream party's claimed victory in 26 parliamentary polls and tens of thousands had taken to the streets against alleged electoral fraud. Irakli Kobakhidze's shock decision last week that EU-candidate will not seek the opening of accession talks triggered a fresh wave of protests, which met with a tough response. Kobakhidze has labelled the protesters as opposition-controlled "violent groups", claiming their attempted revolution "has failed" and -- using language reminiscent of Kremlin rhetoric against its political opponents -- to punish "liberal fascists". But the largely peaceful protests have shown no signs of abating, even though turnout by the end of the week was slightly lower compared to previous days. Riot used tear and cannons to disperse the rallies and the said that 402 protesters had been arrested since 28, including "more than 30 on charges" and the remainder for administrative offences. The Georgian Dream 's critics accuse it of creeping authoritarianism and of steering the country back towards . - 'Can't scare us' - On evening, thousands of people gathered outside the building in the capital , some demonstrators banging on the metal barriers blocking the 's entrance, waving EU flags and loudly blowing horns and whistles, an AFP reporter witnessed. City authorities began setting up a giant tree on the pavement outside during the day, but the installation quickly became a symbolic battleground for protesters. Demonstrators hung on the tree's metallic framework photos of individuals reportedly beaten by -- their faces swollen and bruised -- alongside fliers "Bloody tree." "It's not time for celebrations now," said Nino, 27. The authorities "can't scare us... we are not going to stop." As thousands rallied on Saturday outside , dozens of unidentified masked men stormed the offices of the For Change , brutally assaulting figure Koba Khabazi. The attackers then severely beat two journalists the independent station Pirveli as officers stood by without intervening during the incident near the venue. The Georgian Dream 's security forces had faced persistent accusations of deploying plainclothes security agents to target and political opponents. Kobakhidze announced on Saturday the 's "plan to introduce legislation prohibiting participants at gatherings concealing their faces using any means". The measure "is crucial for preventing violence", he told a conference. - 'Alarming repression' - 's pro-Western President Salome Zurabishvili -- at loggerheads with the ruling party -- said on Saturday that she had had an "in-depth discussion" with US president-elect and French leader Emmanuel Macron in . She said they had discussed the "stolen and extremely alarming repression against the people of ", adding: "The Georgian people have a friend in ." 's leader Volodymyr Zelensky - who has warned of influence in for months -- said Saturday he fully backed 's anti-government protesters. Zelensky urged to stop "surrendering" to in a meeting with Zurabishvili in . Zurabishvili has alleged widespread fraud in 's parliamentary polls, branding the freshly elected legislature and "illegitimate". With both sides ruling out a compromise, there appeared to be no clear route out of the crisis. The , and are among the Western countries to have denounced the crackdown on protests, but the has refused to back down. Thousands have also staged daily protests in other parts of , including the cities of , , , Zugdidi, and Telavi, local reported. Critics of Georgian Dream are enraged by what they call its betrayal of the country's bid for EU membership, enshrined in the constitution and supported by around 80 percent of the population.
