The employee no longer works at the company. Macy’s estimates the employee hid $132 million to $154 million during a period when it had accrued approximately $4.36 billion in total delivery expenses. The company said there is no indication that it impacted its cash management or vendor payments. The retailer released preliminary financial results Monday showing that while net sales for Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury rose 1.4 per cent and 3.2 per cent, respectively, over last year, Macy’s dragged down the company’s overall net sales by 2.4 per cent, to $4.74 billion. Macy’s had been scheduled to release third-quarter results Tuesday, but said the report would be pushed to Dec. 11 to allow it to complete its independent investigation. SAN FRANCISCO — Once general manager Ohemaa Nyanin and her Golden State Valkyries staff had decided who to pick in the WNBA expansion draft, the first challenge became reaching each player with the news before she heard it anywhere else. That meant considering practice times, game schedules, time zones and potential sleep times. It all seemed worthwhile on Friday night when the roster began taking shape. The way Nyanin looks at it, they are all part of history, about to join something being built from the ground up. "I just want these players to be happy," Nyanin said. "I want them to understand the opportunity that they have to come and be historians. Once you get to put on that jersey and you get to sit in front of a packed Chase Center, your whole experience is going to change." The Valkyries selected center Iliana Rupert from Atlanta, guards Veronica Burton of Connecticut and Carla Leite of Dallas and forward Maria Conde from Chicago with their initial picks on Friday, the first players for the new Bay Area franchise that's set to begin play next season. This marked the WNBA's first expansion draft in 16 years since the Atlanta Dream joined the league in 2008. Golden State was free to acquire the contract or negotiating rights to one player from each of the other 12 WNBA teams. The Valkyries can also choose one player from the league who's eligible to become an unrestricted free agent. Two years ago, Colorado athletic director Rick George hired Deion Sanders in an effort to bring life back to the football program. So far, it’s been an unquestioned success, to the point that national pundits often talk about Sanders being a great fit for jobs at other schools, or even the NFL. George, however, is confident Sanders will be in Boulder for a while. Two years removed from a 1-11 season, CU (9-3, 7-2 Big 12) is ranked No. 23 in the College Football Playoff Top 25, No. 20 in the Associated Press Top 25, and awaiting Sunday’s bowl selections to find out where they’ll play next. CU is 13-11 in Sanders’ two seasons. “Everybody talks about all these rumors and all these other things, and I kind of tune out that noise,” George said in an interview with BuffZone. “I know who Deion is, and I know what he represents and I believe he wants to be here for the long haul. We’ve supported all the initiatives that he’s embraced and we’ll continue to do that. My expectation is that he’ll be here and he can write some of our record books moving forward.” How long Sanders coaches in Boulder isn’t known, of course. He still has three years remaining on the five-year, $29.5-million contract he signed two years ago and there have been discussions about an extension. “Coach and I have talked about this three different times and we’ll continue to have discussions about it and that’s kind of where I’m at,” George said, while adding that Sanders doesn’t want to be distracted with contract talks until after the season. Sanders’ base and supplemental salary was $5.7 million this year and he will add $600,000 in bonuses for getting to nine regular season wins and a bowl game. Per the terms of his current deal, Sanders will receive $200,000 raises each season, which means he has $18.3 million left on his deal. Since being introduced as head coach on Dec. 4, 2022, Coach Prime has resuscitated the program. Considered the worst Power 5 conference program at the time, the Buffs improved to 4-8 a year ago (with five one-score losses) and vaulted to 9-3 this year. Led by Coach Prime’s son, Shedeur, at quarterback and dynamic cornerback/receiver Travis Hunter, the Buffs were in the race for the Big 12 title game until the final moments of the regular season last week. CU has been one of the most watched teams in the country, both on social media and on TV. And, of the 24 games CU has played under Coach Prime, 20 have been in sold-out stadiums, including 10 of 12 at Folsom Field. “I’m incredibly happy on where we are today,” George said. “We’ve got another game left, so we can still get to that 10th win, which was the high number that I thought this year that we could get to.” Adding to CU’s profile and Sanders’ coaching resume is that Hunter is the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy, while Shedeur Sanders has a shot to be invited to New York as a finalist, as well. Yet, even with Hunter and Shedeur heading off to the NFL, George said, “I think our best days are ahead of us. “I think what excites me is the recruiting class that he just had, and getting (five-star quarterback) JuJu Lewis is a really important factor in that. There’s a lot of people to build around that I think are going to be here for a while. I like his coaching staff a lot. I like his coordinators. ... And, coach has kind of proven over two years that he can reassemble a roster and get them working together and playing together to compete for a championship.” Coach Prime has often said 2023 was about instilling hope and 2024 was about expectations. George added to that, saying, “I’m sure the third year is going to be even higher expectations on where we think we can go. ... We gotta keep his coaching staff intact and if we do that, with his leadership, I think we’ll have a really good year.” George feels the future is so bright, in fact, that me might consider extending his own time at CU. In September of 2021, he signed a five-year deal that runs through June 30, 2026. In the summer of 2023, George, 64, told BuffZone he didn’t see himself working past then. That could change, however. “I’m contemplating that,” said George, who is in his 11th school year as the Buffs’ AD. “I’m not ready to say, ‘OK, I’ll definitely be done in two years. ... Talking with the family and all that, it’s fun to win again and I like what coach is doing. We have a good relationship and he’s great to work with, so that’s a factor for sure. I think coach and I from the start have had a really good relationship and it seems to get better and better as we go.”

On the afternoon of Oct. 12, 2017, a nurse at Kaiser Permanente called the Monterey Police Department to report that a patient had come in for a sexual assault exam. The woman, the nurse told police, said she had been sexually assaulted four days earlier while at a Republican women’s conference at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Spa in the coastal California resort town. The alleged assailant — though his name wouldn’t be revealed immediately — was a popular Fox News Channel host and the keynote speaker at the conference. The woman, identified only as Jane Doe in police reports, told the nurse she wasn’t sure she wanted to involve authorities and didn’t want to disclose the person’s name at that point. She had been suffering from nightmares and bouts of sobbing after returning home from the conference, but had little memory of the sexual encounter. She feared she had been drugged. The woman, who has not been identified publicly, could not be reached for comment by The Times. The nurse referred the woman to an emergency room for a sexual assault forensic exam. But the nurse’s call — made as a mandated reporter — triggered a law enforcement probe that included interviews with hotel staff, a review of surveillance video, discussions with several of the woman’s associates and a conversation with the alleged perpetrator, Pete Hegseth, who assured police the encounter had been consensual. No charges were ever filed. Monterey County Dist. Atty. Jeannine M. Pacioni said no charges were supported by proof beyond a reasonable doubt. The two parties eventually reached a private settlement, after which Doe signed a nondisclosure agreement. The story seemed to end there — until Donald Trump nominated Hegseth to be Defense secretary. Now that night in Monterey has become the centerpiece in what could be one of the most contentious confirmation fights in years. In recent days, a police report on the incident and other details have offered a clearer picture about the allegations. But much remains unknown, including why local prosecutors decided not to file charges against Hegseth. Shortly after the president-elect’s announcement of Hegseth’s nomination, a friend of the woman wrote a memo to Trump’s transition team saying that Hegseth had raped the then-30-year-old conservative group staffer in his hotel room in the early morning hours following a banquet dinner at the California Federation of Republican Women conference. In response, Hegseth confirmed the financial settlement, saying through his lawyer that he had agreed to pay the woman to protect his job at Fox. But he vehemently denied committing assault. The woman, Hegseth’s lawyer said in a statement, “was the aggressor in initiating sexual activity.” Hegseth had been “visibly intoxicated” at the after-party in the hotel bar, the lawyer said, and the woman had “led him by the arm to his hotel room.” “The matter was fully investigated, and I was completely cleared, and that’s where I’m gonna leave it,” Hegseth told reporters at the Capitol on Thursday. Revelations of the incident have set off a firestorm, both in Washington and among the members of the California Federation of Republican Women. The federation, which is a nonprofit advocacy group, is an organization comprised mostly of retirees. Its members gather for luncheons, conferences and fundraisers to hear Republican politicians speak about conservative issues. Many in the group were horrified that a beloved conservative Republican Cabinet pick could be hurt by allegations. “This thing is so f— bogus,” one of the organization’s officers yelled before hanging up on a Times reporter who called for comment. This week, the Monterey Police Department released a redacted 22-page report detailing its investigation, including accounts of the recollections of Doe and Hegseth, along with several other attendees. Though police reports are typically not public in California, the document had been released because Hegseth had previously asked for a copy. The police report offers the most complete picture yet of what occurred at the Monterey hotel on Oct. 7 and 8. On the second day of the three-day gathering, Doe took a break in her hotel room where she was staying with her husband and at least one of her small children before the banquet dinner and keynote speech — the last major scheduled event of the conference — began at 6 p.m., according to text messages and sources with knowledge of the event. Forty-five minutes later she texted with her husband from the banquet. The conversation turned to Hegseth. “Our ladies are freaking drooling over him,” she wrote. She sent a photo of Hegseth standing at a podium holding a microphone and gesturing with his hand as he spoke. “He doesn’t look even remotely familiar,” she said. “But apparently all the women know who he is.” She continued: “He wears a ring on his pointer finger. It creeps me out.” She lamented that the event was taking so long. After the banquet, the woman went to an after-party in another federation member’s hotel suite, where she had a glass of champagne. Hegseth was there too. A federation member who was there told police later that the woman “did not seem intoxicated, but had a buzz” at the event. Around midnight, Doe, Hegseth and a second woman walked toward Knuckles, the sports bar in the hotel. Inside the bar, which has since closed, televisions and football helmets lined the walls. She texted her husband an update, saying that she was headed to the bar with a group of ladies. “Omg I have so much to tell you. This Pete dude is a ... toooool,” she wrote. While they were drinking at the bar, Hegseth allegedly put his hand on another woman’s knee. She told police that she made it clear it was “not acceptable,” but he still invited her to his room. She declined, according to the report. The same woman tried to get Doe’s attention so she could act as a “crotch blocker” to deter Hegseth’s sexual advances, according to the report. Doe told police that her memory started to get “fuzzy” while she was at the bar. Around 1:30 a.m., Doe argued with Hegseth near the hotel pool about his behavior with women at the conference. He responded that he was a “nice guy,” according to the report. She later told investigators that Hegseth would rub women on their legs and she thought his actions were inappropriate. A hotel employee who had been working that night told an investigator that guests had called the front desk to complain about two people causing a disturbance by the swimming pool about 1:30 a.m. The employee said that when he approached Hegseth and Doe, Hegseth cursed at him and said that he “had freedom of speech.” The woman intervened and said that “they were Republicans and apologized for Hegseth’s actions,” the report states. The staffer said the woman was “standing on her own and very coherent,” while Hegseth was “very intoxicated,” according to the report. Doe placed her hand and arm on Hegseth’s back and escorted him toward the building where his room was, the employee told police. Hegseth later told an investigator he didn’t remember being chastised by the pool. Becoming speaker requires a majority vote from House members. Currently, the Texas House consists of 150 members. In January, the House will be made up of 88 Republicans and 62 Democrats. The new speaker will need at least 76 votes. At the beginning of each legislative session, the current Secretary of State calls the House to order and gives the oath of office to its members. Representatives then nominate speaker candidates and vote. Once the vote is finished, the new speaker takes another oath, and addresses the House floor. Letters are then sent to the Senate and the Governor that state the House is ready to begin. Traditionally, the vote for Texas House speaker has been mostly a formality. Despite recent events suggesting otherwise, Phelan won both of his speaker terms with overwhelming support. In 2023, Phelan received 145 votes to Tony Tinderhold's three. Adani Enterprises Ltd , the flagship company of the ports-to-energy conglomerate helmed by billionaire Gautam Adani, is likely to see consolidated revenue grow at a CAGR of 17.5 per cent and net earnings by 45.8 per cent over 2023-24 fiscal year (FY24) and FY27, a report said. AEL is one of India's largest listed incubators which has conceived, grown, matured and demerged many successful businesses, including ports company Adani Ports & SEZ, city gas distributor Adani Total Gas , power transmission company Adani Energy Solutions , renewable energy firm Adani Green Energy, Adani Power , and commodities firm Adani Wilmar . The company is incubating airports, manufacturing solar modules and wind turbines, green hydrogen, road construction, data centre, and copper. "Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL), the incubator of many successful industry-leading businesses, is ambitiously diversifying into green hydrogen and its ecosystem to drive future growth," Ventura Securities said in the report. "Despite stock volatility following US Department of Justice (US-DOJ) notice (over bribery allegations) in November 2024, AEL has demonstrated resilience, supported by robust fundamentals and operational strength in FY25 (April 2024 to March 2025)." EBITDA and net margins are projected to expand by 647 bps to 18.3 per cent and 255 bps to 5.9 per cent, respectively. "Strong growth in airports and solar/wind turbine businesses and revenue contribution from copper are expected to enhance financial performance and profit margins. As a result, return ratios -- Return on Equity (RoE) and Return on Invested capital (RoIC) -- are expected to improve by 563 bps to 14.5 per cent and 99 bps to 11.3 per cent, respectively," it said. AEL is targeting Rs 6.5-7 lakh crore in capex over the next decade for its expansion into airports, data centres, copper and green hydrogen and its ecosystem. This is expected to be primarily funded through debt, leading to an increase in net debt-to-equity and net debt-to-EBITDA from 1.2x/1.7x in FY24 to 1.8x/2.2x by FY27E. As part of fundraise, the company raised Rs 4,200 crore earlier this year through a QIP with strong participation from both international and domestic investors and Rs 800 crore through its first-ever public issuance of NCDs, marking the first such public issuance by a non-NBFC private corporate in the last decade. Additionally, the airport business secured Rs 1,950 crore, and the road business raised Rs 1,124 crore, both through NCD issuances. Ventura put an equity value of Rs 1.87 lakh crore for the airports business housed in AEL, Rs 52,056 crore for road, Rs 29,855 crore for coal and Rs 11,003 crore for data centre business. Brian Thompson, 50, was shot around 6:45 a.m. as he walked alone to the New York Hilton Midtown from a nearby hotel, police said. The shooter appeared to be “lying in wait for several minutes” before approaching Thompson from behind and opening fire , New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. Police had not yet established a motive. “Many people passed the suspect, but he appeared to wait for his intended target,” Tisch said, adding that the shooting "does not appear to be a random act of violence.” Surveillance video reviewed by investigators shows someone emerging from behind a parked car, pointing a gun at Thompson’s back, then firing multiple times from several feet away. The gunman continues firing, interrupted by a brief gun jam, as Thompson stumbles forward and falls to the sidewalk. He then walks past Thompson and out of the frame. “From watching the video, it does seem that he’s proficient in the use of firearms as he was able to clear the malfunctions pretty quickly,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said.
